Re: Sep 09 Contest Discussion

Is there any way we can get these pics as jpegs? The files are way to large to download if your on dial-up. Plus the final picture has to be compressed to 100K anyways so any advantaged to starting with a RAW file will be lost when it's saved as a 100K jpeg.

Just wondering.

Re: Sep 09 Contest Discussion

brian and brian,

you both need to upload your images to this website. remote linking isnt allowed in the contest rules. and the first brian, i didnt even see that. half the contests here are in being able to duplicate what the 'client' (contest starter) needs and wants includes not just the work of whatever the image requirements are, but also in following the rest of the guides/rules/cilent demands, etc.

Re: Sep 09 Contest Discussion

lonnie,

i love your entry, but the contest rules state no additional outside elements. the fog i would consider an added, outside element. (i still like it, though )

brianclark4; might need to Add a pixel (the picture shows 800X599... which has disqualified images in the past)

Re: Sep 09 Contest Discussion

Your comment is very much appreciated, Craig.

I would think the client does not wish any outside physical elements (more trees, flowers, people, animals, moon, rainbow, etc.) introduced or cut/pasted from other images into the scene. Mist is a naturally occuring atmospheric condition emphasized in this case with a Painting With Light (PWL) technique that complies within the brief's allowance to "...crop the image, enlarge as necessary, clone to clean up lines, pump up the colors or contrast and so forth."

If you were an aspiring professional and this was an actual job (BTW, the purpose behind these contests), you could easily clarify this with the client. Since the clients in these mock situations are essentially mute and the guidelines quite minimal, you must use your skills and knowledge of the craft to produce the most appealing result you can. Doing so and retaining a fully layered working file will allow quick adjustments should the client desire after the fact.

In this case, the misty enhancement is integral to the appeal of my effort. If, however, the client disagrees (do you think he actually would?), it can simply be removed with a click of the pen. On the other hand, if the mist were not there, it would be unlikely that the client would even think to suggest it. He is, after all, depending you for a learned, artistic result.
