Re: August 10 - Contest Discussion

what a fun idea! Using that 6th image turned out to be a real challenge for me. Isolating the cow wasn't that difficult but cloning out the grass from the cut-out was time consuming.

Re: August 10 - Contest Discussion

PhilBach - nice use of colors but the flat and 3D elements don't really seem to go together to me
OlBaldy - I really liked yours but there is a pixel or two of white along the bottom that bothered me
butlermike - you certainly broke all the rules on this one! I think using just one surreal effect would have been enough
NYBOB - Everything is placed onto the bucket beautifully except for the face - maybe some subtle shadows would have made it look like it was resting on the bucket handle better
djds - I liked everything except the red tear
axpiota59 - the creepy eyes were too creepy for my taste
CJSwartz - everything worked except for the way the paint drops were used ~ maybe some kind of bevel or shadow would have helped to 'glue' it onto the composite?

Veronica, there was no size limit stated for the contest..
The 100K size limit on the entire Forum is imposed on and limited to those who have not taken advantage of being a Patron

If you want a "Patron" tag under your name in every forum post, Larger Gallery space, Forum attachment size doubled (up to.. under 200K), and you won't see any banner ads in the forums Then Click HERE!

Re: August 10 - Contest Discussion

Last night I thought I'd tracked back far enough in the rules to explain the 100kb limit:

-T Paul > Resizing and Attaching Images > Contest FAQs:
-jeaniesa>Resizing images for RetouchPRO> "Actually, the 100KB limit applies to the forums only. In the gallery, you are allowed up to 200KB for image file sizes."
What I deduced:
-V.> (contests are part of the Studio Forum, no?)

BUT, today after your enlightenment, I found the ultimate pie-in-the-face:
-So what do I get for paying?
-"Forum attachment size doubled"

From OLB:
Quote:
Veronica, there was no size limit stated for the contest..

Thanks OlBaldy, I'd always intended to pay up, just haven't gotten to it yet. Now it will be sooner rather than later.

Thank you Veralisa. My original idea was to make a totem pole with the boat launch and chess pieces, but that didn't work out.

This idea came to me almost by accident. I had placed each of the images in layers and was shuffling them as I was trying to decide what to do. I deleted the white background from the chess set, and there was the owl staring back at me from across the chess board looking somewhat "Oscar the Grouch-ish." After seeing that, I became determined to figure out how to blend four more of the images into a viable composite.

Re: August 10 - Contest Discussion

hello
thanks to all those who commented on the shadows in my composite.
It's great to hear, as shadows are a real issue for me, and I am always trying to improve them and make them look more real/plausible.

Lorraine I really enjoyed looking at what you did. You overcame what I found to be the most difficult aspect of this challenge and that was to make the composition art worthy.

Re: August 10 - Contest Discussion

Thank you all.

I think that each entry was well thought out and blended wonderfully. Imagination was a big part of this contest, and you all demonstrated that there is no lack of that among the members here.
