Hey, I'm working on this picture but having trouble with the lighting and eyelashes. How does it look so far?

She's a beautiful child and the shot is brilliant, but I think the eyelashes are wee bit too thick.

Would you recommend fixing her bangs?

The eyelashes are a bit too much for my taste. Flora, somewhere in the posts, developed a series of eyelash brushes that you may be able to modify with masks and opacity.

Way too much on the eyelashes. This is a quick do up here but if your wanting enhanced eyelashes you could use the burn brush in shadow mode and then use a 1 px smudge brush to lengthen the lashes if that is what you are needing

Getting better. One thing you'll definately want to pay attention to is the similarity in the lashes. They shouldn't be exactly the same all the way around. I've attached the same procedure but made the lashes a bit longer. Even if you're going for the fake eyelash look, you don't want to get a "painted on" fake eyelash look. Not that my demo here is all that fantabulous but I'm hoping it kinda helps you get an idea of what I'm meaning.

IMO, unless this is one of those *shudder* pageant shots then I'd leave her eyelashes as they are. She is a gorgeous child (not being the maternal type, I dont say that often ) and you want to preserve her natural beauty.
If it is then you've not gone nearly far enough with the picture - from what I know of the style. Being from the Uk all I have is second hand info...

I dont mean to offend anyone, attitudes to pageants is very much a cultural thing, I know in the US is something that you're brought up with and must seem perfectly normal, but to us accross the pond, I think most of us are a bit 'OMG what are you doing to your children!'

Didn't offend me NancyJ I have my opinions on it too. But if that's what she is needing hopefully I kinda helped out.

Not really my thing - but this would be my take on it.

The work Xaran and Twinkissed have done looks really good. I'm in the US, not a pageant fan, but I think in gorgeous shots like this one we expect to see slightly enhanced eyelashes.

I've found extending the lashes and adding to lashes is best achieved by using a 1px smudge at around 28% on a new layer, set the mode to darken and draw the smudge out from the original eyelashes or from the darker edge of the eye area. I usually set the blending mode to normal. Using this method, two or three coaxes of the lash general builds a new lash nicely.

Even though I don't do these.... overall something seemed off and missing. I ran some duplicate layers (overlay, hue adjustment, soft lighting, color) and then ran through Neat Image. I don't like the lips now that I did them but I didn't feel like changing them either. I also cropped the photo to bring it more in the middle. I would stay away from any "painted" look. I also darked the eyebrows slightly with a light opacity burn brush set to shadows.

I'm sorry, I have been out of town lately! I think you are getting better at the pageant stuff. It looks to me like you could use more "pop". Meaning more contrast, and go easy on the eyelashes. I get my eyelashes from somewhere on DeviantArt. I think I have posted them before but can't remember where or when. I will try to find them again. Even though she is a beautiful child, I'm not a fan of the slack jaw look. If you still need some help with it, PM me and I will try to help as best as I can.
