A bit of photo art...comments wanted. Hi all! Just finished this photo art. This was my first time using this particular technique. I like the effect. This is a friend's cat and I've done all sorts of "renditions" on the poor guy...he's really beautiful "as is" but I couldn't resist messing with him. Anyway, I've just recently gotten started in Photoshop, so any comments would be appreciated! Thanks... Andrea

ajava, welcome to RP when you're dealing with any art of any kind, you're dealing with opinions. and primarily you can boil this down to yours and other's. so, if in your eyes it's perfect, then it's perfect. but, since you've put this in a critique area, you're also asking for the 'other's' category and this is almost always going to be subjective. so, saying all that, i love the soft black and white. i even like the high grain effect with one exception, the eyes. i would have masked the eyes and left the grain out. other than that, it's purrr-fect (to me) craig

Craig, Yeah, I paused before posting it to this particular forum...I read the guidelines and it did mention that "photo art" was appropriate for posting here, but I was having a hard time imagining what kind of criticism could be offered for this type of work. I do totally agree with what you are saying....it's hard to be objective about such a subjective thing. Maybe if I post the original picture along side the "art" picture? That might provide grounds for more objective critiquing. Thanks for your warm welcome and your comments...I'm having a great time here already!!

ajava, you're welcome. attached is my poor attempt at what i was saying about the eyes. i'm sure it would look better if done from the original. and again, this is just one possibility. craig

Don't be afraid to let your imagination run wild! ajava, Welcome to RP. Your work is a nice first attempt, but it does lack that "something special" to make it stand-out from the crowd. When you apply a photo-art effect you don't have to stop there. Always try to give your work some extra attention that will make it truely unique. The possibilties are endless. My take on your subject:
