I took my little girl out yesterday to take some shots in a local park. I think I managed to get a cood few, even thgouth she was not really in the cooperating mood - lol. THese are the two I have played with so far. Please tell me what you think. I plan to use them in my portfolio and on the website. THanks so much!

Beautiful girl, eyes a bit overdone for my tastes, but enjoyed the pictures. Think I prefer the second shot.

Nicely done!!! I have to say that I love both pics!!!

The only thing that catches my eye is the colour of the lips on the first image (the close-up)...I would tone it down just a touch (but that's just a personnal opinion).

P.S.: very cute kid you have there!

I agree with Gary about eyes in the first shot.. whites are too white and not enough detail, otherwise very nice, both of them!

hi dawn,

love the first one and wouldnt change a thing.

the second lacks something (to my tastes). it's a good shot and i like it, but it's framed a bit off and lacks...something. i did a couple versions just to give you some ideas (and to show off a bit ). (it is a good shot).

Cute!

Really Nice photos!

First Photo:
Overblown highlights in pick headdress...Bring them back! Then lighten the the whole photo and bring back the contast and proper exposure to the face area. Attention will then be drawn to the face...not to all that pink. Next draw attention to the eyes by lightening the irises and whitening the highlights... "season to taste".

Second photo:
Again...overblown highlights in the dress... bring them back!

Tom

Thank you all for your comments, and for the critiques and suggestions. I have been showing these off around here, and am having folks actually want big prints of the one with feathers, not even knowing who me or my daughter are - lol. I put her on my business cards, and boy are those fish a biting! I have already got two newborn shoots planned, a maternity shoot, just had two decent orders for prints from recent shoots, and got a BIG order on my recent venture into wedding photography. I am really excited. Can't wait to go to WORK - lol.

Thanks again everyone!

Dawn

dawn,

you're welcome

you dont always have to trust my work, but always trust my eye the first one is a case of photography extending into art...it's more than 'just a shot'.

nicely done, dawn

Oh, Craig, I totally forgot about when I posted - I loved the crop on the trees pic. Do you recall if that ratio will fit an 8x10> I think I am going to try it. Thanks for the eye - lol.

Thanks Gary for the good wishes!

dawn,

it's not quite the right ratio for an 8 x 10, but close. the ratio for an 8 x 10 is 0.8. mine is cropped at 0.728, which in a borderless 8 x 10 printing would leave you with a small bit of white space on one side. or, if you wanted to print it without that white space it would be 8 x 10.982 at 106% scale or 7.678 x 10.540 at 102% scale.

ok, the numbers drive some folks nuts, so, there's two ways to fix this for a true 8 x 10. you could do a slightly different crop, or, you could resize the image to 8 x 10, which would stretch the horizontal just a bit. i tried it. it's not too bad. actually, you could also change things by adding a border or frame as well.

but, here's a re-crop of the original. it basically just cuts a bit off the bottom and right side.

I like these two images, and the eyes in the first one are beautiful. But then again, I do have a weakness for radiant eyes. The compositions are next to perfect - good work!
