Re: first real, in depth, beauty retouch

Hello to all forum members! (this is my first post here)

I guess, like in photography, there are different styles of retouching, and there is no wrong and right.

My personal opinion is: when you see it's been retouched, it's not my thing.

Life's beauty is not about symmetry, it's about feeling the breath of big principles going through individual things.

I am doing mostly portraits professionally.

I see retouching as bringing the electronic perception of the camera to the quality of human perception ( in whatever emotional state such a human being would be).

To the OP: congratulation to your good work!

Just as in any service or support industry, the first thing to do is to find out what the client (or employer) wants. This avoids potential conflicts with the client as well as internal agonizing. With regard to MrAlexajlex's comment, I agree that the retoucher should be fired, but not because of what he did, but because of what he did not do, which was to ask for guidelines.

With regard to the posted images, I agree with TommyO that you have done some nice work cleaning it up. Unless you are indeed restricted as to what you can do to the image, I would adjust contrast and brightness very slightly (without darkening the shadows on the face) and perhaps add a touch of highlight to her lips, as they look a bit dry.
