Would you be kind enough to tell us what equipment you used to photograph these shots and the settings? As far as commenting on the posted shots, I think they are all well done and document the effort involved during combat competition. The skin tones, colors and crop choices, in my opinion, are done in a professional manner. |

| Re: Photos: 2009 Muay Thai Championships 08/30/200 Thank you for the positive criticism. I shoot a Nikon D300 with the 28-70mm AFS f/2.8 lens when ringside; 400mm AFS-II f/2.8 when auxiliary. The lighting for this show was phenominal, very bright and hot (literally). These were shot at 1/640 & 1/500 at f/2.8 @ ISO 500 to 800 around 3000K. The shallow DOF is challenging at times. If the fighters aren't on the same plane, one can be slightly to horribly out of focus. During this event, I dabbled with f/3.2, a little more ISO, and a little less ISO to get a broader DOF but I don't see the results as much as f/4 or f/5.6 would bring. Sometimes the shallow DOF works, other times it is a detriment. Ocasionally I will shoot with a 50mm f/1.4 or 35mm f/2 if lighting is bad. Talk about shallow DOF; at f/1.4 it is painful. |
