CC of a pretty girl

In the pictures, I didn't do anything but color correction.

Thoughts on what you would've done, or not done.

Re: CC of a pretty girl

Hi James,
Whether this is any good or not depends on what you set out to achieve and, I suppose, what the context of the image might be.

As a standalone image the colour correction in itself is okay. There is no right or wrong in your personal chromatic tastes.

If I knew what you were trying to achieve in particular, then perhaps I could offer some input.

On a technical level, whatever filter (or process) you used seems to have added some unpleasant Tonal Contrast/HDR/Clarity that makes her face and eyes appear unreal. Beyond that however I can only say whether the image is to my personal taste or not, and that won't help you.

Re: CC of a pretty girl

Thanks, that was helpful.

I am getting a sense of personal preferences from others. Just letting diferent eyes see these things and having others say, oh, that's great, or that's terrible, or that is neither nor, is all helpful. All responses mean something (even lack of).

Even getting a sense for what the image might serve a good use for, would be valuable info.

But most of all, hearing others subjective opinions helps me be more critical of my own work, as well as understanding perception of image.

So, thank you for your reply.

I tend to find that leaving images overnight and looking again with fresh eyes the next day helps loads. Usually I think I've over-edited and end up setting my retouch to 50% anyway!

Re: CC of a pretty girl

@panther: Yeah, that works, too. Also, I'll leave an image I am working on up on the screen, and take a break, do some other things, and when I come back to it... right when I walk in the room, the image can take me by surprise and I get almost that instinctual reaction of whether something is wrong or not.

But I have that everyday, anytime I want it, but no one else sees my work, so I never get feedback from others initial reactions, so showing work on this forum has been helpful.

There is so much more out there, than I know or could figure out alone, there is something very invigorating about interacting with others.

@Palm: Definitely appreciate the positive comments, especially from someone as talented as your self. Knowing what is good about something is just as important as knowing what's bad about it. xie xie!
