Talking Fake ocean: Look real?

Hi I took these photos, did the usual contrast and neutralize. I might have saturated it abit to much but it looks okay on the A4 prints I did.

What I realy want to talk about is the water. I created a new image put alot of noise on it, embossed the separations all in different directions and changed the perspective so that it looks like you are looking into the horizon. There were other tweaks but thats the bulk of it. I then used that as a displacement on this image.

Drop me a message and ill give you the link to the tutorial.

Does it look believable? I know theres no waves but it has a good lake kind of vibe..

CRIT ASSEBLIEF!!

Re: Fake ocean: Look real?

I think it looks great. If you stare at it long enough, the water almost seems to move. I agree though that it has more of a big lake feel. But, what do I know...I only see the ocean about once a year.

Re: Fake ocean: Look real?

Altho its been a number of years ago, I spent several years at sea on large gray ships and I do not remember the ocean that smooth. Some harbors and lakes look like that, but not oceans, especially when one is way out away from land.

One does have to take that last statement with a grain of salt. Land is rarely over a few miles away, straight down of course......

yeah, that's really good - I like it. definitely more big lake than ocean - whatever though, it looks really peaceful, the image has a really nice atmosphere

Re: Fake ocean: Look real?

For a look at the ocean, go here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ausVC2NhAo

If you watch a bit of it, one can see the surface of the water does change but never as smooth as yours.

So how would one build something like the water surface in the video?

Re: Fake ocean: Look real?

It's pretty! However, I agree that it is more of a lake than an ocean. Either way it's attractive work.
