Photo Art Critique

I would appreciate feedback on this photo. I have used glowing edges and adjusted both the brightness and the vibrance. I am (hopefully if I get it right) posting both the original and the photoshopped photos.

So please go for it - what do you like? dislike? what could be done better? and how?
Thanks
Jannz

Okay - the pictures did not show but atleast the links work

I know how to post pictures now so here they are:

Re: Photo Art Critique

Hi Jannz.

I love the colour and detail that you've brought out from the photo. Nice use of darkening the background to focus on the dress and shop(?).

It'd be a shame to crop the pic, but I feel that the dress is too central - I'm a great believer in the rule of thirds.

8/10 Nice work.

Re: Photo Art Critique

Thanks Crapaud. I appreciate your comments. I have tried cropping the picture. I don't know how to get the picture to display but here is the link to the cropped picture.

Sorry - that didn't work either. The picture is on flickr. I did try following the instructions under the FAQ section but must be missing the point somewhere along the line.

To post to the forum you need to have a copy of less than 100kb. When you're ready to post don't use the Quick Reply field, you need to use the Go Advanced option and use the Manage Attachments, browse to the file and upload.

Re: Photo Art Critique

I liked the cropped version much better. The colors are nice. But it has that filtered look. If you can find a way to vary the lines I think that will really add to the artist look.
Good luck.

Re: Photo Art Critique

Hi CathyH.
Thanks for your response. I am not quite sure what you mean by "filtered look". Can you please explain. I would really appreciate it.
When you mention "vary the lines" are you meaning the lines are too straight? Do I need to make them look more hand drawn?
Thank you

Re: Photo Art Critique

By filtered I think she means that the image appears to have merely been run through a bunch of stuff in photoshop's "Filter" menu, rather than actually gone through any meritable artistic process. I'm sorry to say that I would be inclined to feel the same way.

Applying the glowing edges filter does not equal art.

Re: Photo Art Critique

I guess it depends on what your personal vision is for the photo, and what the intention was when it was taken. There's no right or wrong in art. Asking what someone would do implies that something should be done, as if the process of photoshop itself will turn something into art.

Re: Photo Art Critique

Sorry Oneredpanther. I was attempting to get some constructive ideas from you. You implied there was no meritable artistic process in my image. I was trying to get you to elaborate on that in a way that would be practical and helpful to me.
