Like/Dislike? Please be honest!

Hi everyone,

It's Fen again... I hope I'm not posting too much stuff and tiring you

This is the second image I post. It's a stockphoto I would like to place on my portfolio.

What do you think of the retouched image? Like/Dislike?

Before image:

After image:

(you can zoom in when you click on it)

Please be honest because I'll be out there showing this to professionals in a couple of months so I would prefer not to be humiliated then

Thank you very much!

Regards,

Fen

Dislike. The original image is not attractive (head size doesn't match the shoulder size), and looks as if it has already been retouched. The extra definition provided by more retouching seems to enlarge the shoulders relative to the head.

Re: Like/Dislike? Please be honest!

Dislike (sorry) If you are using D&B for your retouches you are on the right track... But you should pay more attention and time in it... Of all the retouching techniques, D&B is the most time consuming... Be patient because this takes some time to learn and apply, the more you practice the better your results... (here, a tablet is a must).

I've posted a work flow before (link below) of making a couple of layers to help you see better, the areas where you need to use more "or" less D&B. Although in a different way, many retouchers use these layers with the same purpose. (you can delete them when you are done with your D&B) BTW, never use your original to get right into retouching, it is a good practice to duplicate the original to start your retouching, and by the same token, you have the original to compare your progress every now and then.

Good luck

Re: Like/Dislike? Please be honest!

Hi,

After viewing all the dislikes I had take a holiday
But I'm back.... and hoping you'll like the changes I made to the retouched image.

I totally agree I made her shoulders look broader so I lightened up on the D&B.

KR1156: I don't think I agree the image was retouched already because nothing had been done about her teeth, stray hairs and freckles. Or is there some other reason you believed that?

Would appreciate if you could all have a look again and tell me if this second attempt is an improvement!

After:

I've also made a crop so you can see the skin textures better.

Thanks a lot and have a great day!

Fen

Hey fen:
Like - You took a big step on these ones... I can see the progress. This is what I was talking about when I said practice and and concentration while dodging and burning... The more you practice the better it gets... A couple of days ago I retouched this picture too...
In case you want to take a look here's the link: http://boneappetit.deviantart.com/#/d464y52

You are doing great, nice job, keep it up...

Re: Like/Dislike? Please be honest!

Hi Boneappetit:

So glad you think it's better now I decided to stay of the dodging and burning for a bit because I got a bit over enthusiastic..

Had a look at your image ofcourse and really like what you did to it!

Regards,

Fen
