Re: Comments on a new Technique

I also think it looked better with the highlights; maybe somewhere in between is ideal? I'm relatively new to retouching, so am also going to have to look into this "frequency splitting" technique.
I must say though, for only an hour or two of work, it looks really good. I clearly need to work on my speed as well. lol

Do you use a tablet? I understand they speed things up considerably. I'm still using a mouse.

On the 100k debate, I too think it's a bit low, only because in order to keep the image larger, I find you lose a lot of detail. I think it's fine to get an overall impression of an image (colour, shadows, etc.) but if people are looking at details like textures and such, they get lost. Just my two-cents.

Also, I agree that asking an opinion on a technique, but not saying what you did, doesn't make sense to me. You could have just asked for a critique based on your results and time spent. And on 0lbaldy's note, people on here come to learn and share, so by hiding your technique yet expecting help seems a bit backwards to me. Granted, this is "feedback", but you may need help down the road and everyone has to learn somehow. It's just good karma.

SRPhotography, if you go out and buy a tablet today, you'll be kicking yourself for not having bought it yesterday. I couldn't imagine editing images without one.

That's what I hear Scatterbrained, I just don't have $400 to drop on one right now. :P
Maybe if I actually start making some money retouching I'll put that towards one. lol

Not wishing to hijack but... I think that as non paying members of the forum we should be glad of what we can get, failing that, there are other off-site free hosting solutions

Look for used or refurb. I bought my intuos 3 refurbed back in 09 and it's still going strong! I saw a member of another board I'm on sell off an extra he had for about $100. The deals come up, ya just gotta keep an eye peeled

Intuos 5 small, I have the 4 small and its great. The larger ones only really benefit illustrators imo.
