Christmas Photo

I'm working on this as a gift to my mom. Once it's done I plan on printing it on canvas. The original photo was retouched in Photoshop and then worked on in Painter to create a painterly feel.

Beautiful on the clothes and background - great job on all the detail. I have only two comments ...

-The bags under the girls eyes, the right side (our right) has a bag - our left side no bag and looks empty - the side with the bag needs a little less and the side without needs a little more for a natural expression - it will give the face a little more shape and a smile in the eyes.

-Color of the skin ... The baby is ok but not right yet - the girl has a yellow hand and blue skin around the pink cheeks (my point is that what ever her skin tone is it would be close to the same - hand and cheek. I think that all of the skin might be gray and just need some more saturation. After adding saturation I think it will be easier to adjust the skin color.

-My wife mentioned that the three big lights on the tree would probably not be that bright if someone had really painted them ...

Good Luck,
Roger

Thanks Roger for the helpful comments. I'll give them a try. I've also attached the original photo.

Roger, I started working on your comments and you were spot on! I can't believe how gray the face was. I didn't even realize it until I increased the saturation. I corrected the eye bags and that did give the face more shape. I am still working on matching the hand color with the face. I'll post the finished image once I am done. Tell your wife, that I will also tone down the lights and see how they look.

THANKS AGAIN!

~T

Looking good! The baby needs some more life - the highlights are duller than the girls. Curves in luminosity blending mode or painting white on an empty layer in overlay or softlight mode would be the easiest.

For the lights try pulling little steaks of the darker part of the light into the lighter, in a circle like one would paint a light...

It is looking great though,
Roger

Super T ...

Beautiful, all the tones now have the same velvet feel that the background has.

Very very good! Baby's arm might stil be a little blue, but I see nothing else!

Roger
