Welcome to RetouchPRO Hope you enjoy your stay here and make lots of friends. Poke around, ask questions, have fun!

It would probably be easier if scanned in color with all automatic settings turned OFF and @ a high resolution...

What photo editing software are you using?

At the top of this page there is a 'Search' button.. click it and in the box that pops up enter the phrase.. faded writing .. that should provide you with many approaches to your problem..

Good Luck

Re: clean up the background

Do you have any clues? A date range you might have in mind? There are numbers along the bottom that could be a date but it would take some guesses to put it together. Seems as if it could be, from left to right 32309500 ??????? 1623 (or maybe 1620)
The vertical series on the left side looks like TKD 468 372 BZD(or maybe 820?) Looks like it says SLEEPER across the top. One guess is that it could be 12/30/95 or 02/30/95 for a date... ? Just guessing though.

Oh, and I am by no means a forensic specialist, so there may be tools out there I do not know about... just a photoshop user here.

Re: clean up the background

A color scan would probably contain more information, especially if the text is a slightly different colour than the paper itself. Scan in 16-bit if possible so we have as much to work with as possible.
Also, save it as something lossless like PNG or TIFF. JPEG will destroy some information, and every bit might help when doing "restoration" like this.

Re: clean up the background

Oh, and I almost forgot, beware auto-adjustments done by the scanner software. It might make it look better on the preview, but it might clipping some information.

Re: clean up the background

I think the text under Hyderabad is the ticket price in Rupees (Rs) followed by the date and train time.
