Wacom tablets.

I've been looking at these and would like to know what the difference is between the 'Intuos2' and 'Intuos3' other than about £100!

Re: Wacom tablets.

There are some advantages, but not £100 worth. The Intuos 3 has a touchstrip (which I never use), and can sense which pen you're using and change settings accordingly (useless if you only own one pen). There are a few other improvements, but seriously if you can save £100 with the Intuos 2 (and it's new, not refurbed or used) go for it.

Thanks for that. It's funny you should mention about it being 'used' because the one I'd had my eye on is. What is there to wear out?

Re: Wacom tablets.

Wacom has some of the best support I've ever come across in a company. But they do check the serial number to see if you're the registered owner. I've not had anything "wear out", but I have had a couple of software conflicts that were beyond me to fix solo. But they can stop working, and if you have no warranty all your price savings are flushed.

" they can stop working..." Don't like the sound of that! Are there reliability issues?

My Intuos3 (a5) was very unresponsive occasionally. I emailed back and forth with Wacom-support (driver issues, hardware conflicts that sort of thing). The conclusion from the supportguy was that I should take it back. I did that, got a brand new one and 512mb usb-stick. That's pretty nice support in my book.. Of course it shouldn't have broken down in the first place.

That being said.. Apart from my 24" Eizo monitor my Wacom pen is the best thing I have invested in. It takes a few days getting used to but after that... Editing with a mouse just seems plain wrong ;-)

Re: Wacom tablets.

Rather than start another thread, is there a big difference regarding usb/serial connection?
