Demo Eizo lcd...risky?

BH photo has a Eizo ColorEdge CE240W for sale for $1450 (might be able to talk em down some) with full manf. warrenty. Is this a risky buy? I haven't called yet to see the condition or how long its been used or running.

My other option is 30" cinema display, more screen but more money...1599 with student discount, would have to also buy ColorEyes Pro to calibrate it right... (already have a Gretag Macbeth eyeone display 2)

I really like the hardware profiling of the eizo but I also like the size of the apple. I'm still a student (graphic design) but I want to go more towards retouching , I have a prepress retouching job lined up soon but I also would like to freelance at home eventually so I need an accurate display

Heres a link discussing calibrating the cinema's with coloreyes pro
http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00Jx4d

what are your opinions with calibrating the cinema displays with that program? (supposed to talk with the displays, some sort of plugin for it) will it have the color accuracy close to the Eizo?

$1400 for a high end display would nice....but the huge cinema would also be nice....hmmm

The 5yr warranty on the Eizo is nice too, wouldn't try a demo with a 1yr!

The only hangup I have is color accuracy...its hard to tell which one is "right" the cinema displays have a gamut very close to the Eizo CG211 as shown here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn4TwKVXy10

Your opinions would be helpful

You get what you pay for. Eizos are the best thing going pretty much. The Cinema Display isn't half the monitor.

Re: Demo Eizo lcd...risky?

Thanks for the comment ant its appreciated, Especially since you own an Eizo and work on one. (hey I did do a search or two!)

Over the last few days I have almost completely decided on an Eizo, I don't want to take another loss on being disappointed...The LCD I have now is an Acer 22" that I bought for $270 and the brightness gradient /color cast across the top to bottom is most unacceptable....I knew for the money it couldn't be great but it had great reviews lol.

Do you have an opinion on buying the used model? its $1400 for the 24" and 1200 for the new 21" (both color edge models) The $1600 new for the 24" is just a bit too much, I could live with 21" for that much money.

I own and work on an eizo also. I don't think I would ever get the 30" apple.
But be aware that there is a difference between the CG and the CE. Big one.

Re: Demo Eizo lcd...risky?

Hmmm whats the main difference?, is the Brightness and Color Uniformity much more even? Also I noticed they have a larger gamut.

Is there a better display for the money? I can't justify $2500+ on a CG model, if I was free-lancing and making money I would get the new 24" CG in a heartbeat.
