Digipro 6x8 tablet - need setup help

Friends,
I am an old retired university professor, whose passion is hisorical images. I just purchased a very basic 8 X 6 drawing tablet, made by Digipro. I did not want to appropriate the money for a more expensive product, as the majority of my work consists of cleaning these old images. Therefore my main event is using the "clone tool" in Photoshop 7.

Guess what? I have no idea what I am doing wrong, but the basic concept of using the ALT key as with the mouse movement, is not working with the pen movement. I would appreciate any assistance in identifying this problem or should I purchase Photoshop CS-2 to get get maximum success. The box does offer a (trial) Photoshop CS-2 unit.

Does anybody have an answer to my problem? Must I upgrade to CS-2?

Thank you,

Re: Clone tool issue with pen & Photoshop v.7?

Welcome Prof. Brittanicus:

We are honored that you joined us.

Based on the product specifications I found here...

http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/arcm...hreadid=684616

...there is no mention of Photoshop in terms of a minimum version. I seriously doubt upgrading to a later version of Photoshop will help.

You did not mention operating system: XP is OK; Vista could be a problem.

===========

Did you check the tablet's [Start > Settings > Control Panel] dialog settings? My guess is there is probably one that establishes the behavior you're looking for.

Re: Clone tool issue with pen & Photoshop v.7?

Hi Brittanicus could you clarify what you mean
Is it that you cannot make your pen do the "alt" bit ( if this is the case i think if you go through your pen manual you may be able to assign a button of your pen for this )

or is it something else?

I must admit i use the pen ( a basic cheap one) in my right hand and use my left hand to press the alt key on the key board

Re: Clone tool issue with pen & Photoshop v.7?

Thank you Danny for your nice reception,
I am sure your expertee's will be greatly appreciated over the following months. However, right now I seem to be at a standstill? The pen tablet is the perfect tool for me, for the basic process that I nedd to work on my images? Yes! You are correct, I am a XP Professional man, not a "Vista".

The only dialog boX I seen to have displays info, button, scope, hot cells and pressure...perhaps I am missing something?

Appreciate your time on this matter.

I am flying a little blind on this one. (a) I don't have a tablet of my own and (b) I cannot see your screen or read any hard copy documentation you may have. But I will do the best I can.

"Button" sounds promising. What options does it offer?

---------------

I am going to change the thread title to attract attention of others who might have this tablet installed.

I just reread your initial question...

Check the attached image. Be sure your Clone tool settings are properly set.

Re: Digipro 6x8 tablet - need setup help

Just to go a little further with what Danny has posted, The align box will determine where your sample point starts. By checking the "Align" box it will move the sample point with the mouse. Unchecking it will yield a different result, it will still follow the cursor movement however the sample point always starts exactly where you set it to. Also make sure you have the layer selected that you want to clone onto.

If for some reason your sampling does work with the mouse and not the tablet...well then thats a weird problem all together. If that's the case I would try and reset photoshop to default settings

Close down Photoshop if its open, then:
Hold down all three Ctrl+Alt+Shift buttons, then while keeping those button held, open Photoshop up, it will prompt you to "delete the Photoshop settings file", then click yes.

This will start you factory fresh and can eliminate any weird bugs.

Hope this helps you, there's nothing more frustrating than having software not do what its supposed to be doing!!
