Does this plotter achieve the contract proof accuracy if it's calibrated?

I was looking into that one a while ago, I believe it comes pretty close when using there recommended rip. They also have an auto calibration process. It has problems printing out B+W print's without a color cast, but but I recall there are special drivers you can use to get it to print better.

However that printer's been around a long time, and might soon be outdated. I would look into the Epson 7880, it is SWOP certified when used with the ColorBurst rip. I have sample prints from both printers and I favor the Epson and would consider it a better choice. The printing shop I work at uses an HP Z3100 for proofs and it matches spot on, however I would look into the 7880 with the colorburst rip combo.

I agree with U about the epson choice, however I got this hp to proof with. What do U think about my original question: has this hp the ability to achive the contract proof quality with a gmg rip?

I wish I knew for sure. I also have not used GMG's rip.

The best thing I can suggest is to compare a previous offset job to your proof. If none is available you might try and match a known pantone swatch from a company (such as Pantone 151 for cingular's orange) to your proof, printing on HP's proofing gloss, which simulates common offset stock. I used cingular's color as an example however it will probably be out of the HP's gamut. Or better yet if you have pantone's swatch book, compare the proofer's sample against several process colors.

On a more precise method you could make a test chart and plate it at your printer. Then use a spectrophotometer to make a profile. Finding someone to do it might be a problem in Humgary though. We had a color specialist come in and profile our heidelberg and average out the profile over the week.

Sorry I couldn't answer your question directly...but I would guess it would be close if the GMG rip uses the CLC calibration, and proofing gloss is used.
