is Mac 24" Cinema display reaaally that bad ??

Been reading about displays... there are threads about mac displays that are not that good for retouching jobs.
I have a Lacie photon 20 vision, and... i hate it!
thanks i got it for free.. I can't set RGB, can't set contrasts !
my contrast ratio is like 300:1 which gives me nice suprises when i see my job on a more contrasty screen ! annd it is calibrated. even my MBP 17" screen has more contrast!

sooo... i can't afford more than the 24" cinema display which is 800$.
which is way cheaper than eizo or lacie screen.
My question is: are apple screens really that bad even calibrated every week ?
is the difference so huge between what u see on screen and ur prints ?
what about the new glossy led display ?

the apple screens have slipped somewhat in quality but they are still consistent, Kodak still has them on their list of recommended monitors for their virtual proofing systems...

but then why so much people complain about them ?
main reason i saw were lack of manual contrast/luminosity etc setting but i guess that solve the problem when u calibrate it.
im only worried that i'll see blue that'll look pink when printed.. And contrast.
my lacie has a lot oof fancy button i cant use.
