Your next printer choice

Just wondering here, what would you buy if you had to replace your printer today and why?

Re: Your next printer choice

Hi.
As one Okie to another, I don't think that I will buy anymore photo printers. I am really tired of the ink expense and I am going to try to order what I want from my photo gallery site. I'll see how that works out. For now my wife wants me to support the Canon printer but I am loathe to buy ink for it.

I have thought about a continuous inking system but that too is expensive and maybe a lot of trouble.

I am just using inexpensive laser printers for text printing.

Re: Your next printer choice

Could you point out a source for the continuous ink system that you feel confident in? I would like to try it on a Epson R300 if it is supported. Thanks.

Re: Your next printer choice

Icramer53,
Can you be a bit more specific on some of the criteria ?
- cost range;
- paper size;
- color or b&w;
- image types;

For example, a nice home inkjet printer for 8.5x11 glossy's can range from $90-$300. A semi-pro inkjet for a home-office going up to 13x19 and using art papers moves you up to $400-$800. A similar printer that accepts roll paper, better inks for extend life and better color gamut, gets in the $800+ range. And so on.

Re: Your next printer choice

since you put this as a totally subjective question, i'd get another HP D7260 (or whatever the upgrade might be now). it's quick, does great color matching, uses the MUCH cheaper 02 inks and beats any other printer i've tried for color printing.

now, had you asked what would i get as a second printer, i'd have answered a large format printer, one that does at least 24 x 36 (poster size).

but, my true dream in a printer is a true flatbed printer, one that moves the ink over the media or moves the media under the print heads and dries the whole mess with ultra violet or some other quick means. this would allow me to do printing on glass, wood, metal and other unusual media.

I am in love with my epson r1800, and you can buy ink online for about $12 cnd. it prints up 13x19, supports roll paper, fine media, printable cd/dvd. when i got the printer about a year ago it was about $600 cnd.
