Monitors: Best of a Bad Bunch: Cheap Monitors

Hi,

I'm in need of a cheap monitor, just something to tide me over until I can afford something in the professional realm of displays.

So, of course I'm going to have to make big sacrifices in the areas of image quality, reliability etc etc. This isn't such an issue right now, for the past year and a half I've been traveling and looking at everything on a MacBook screen.

The things I really would like are a size of at least 19/20 inches, and something nice and bright --- in the sub-$300 price range (I know, a tall order, but for the moment I can live with less-than-stellar contrast, dead pixels, and a short lifespan).

Is this possible? Or am I better off putting some monitor names in a hat and just picking one at random?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Any tips on blasts from the past that can be picked up cheap second hand would also be helpful.

for a decent, under $300 monitor, you shld be able to get a 19 inch for that at some place like Staples or Wal Mart. heck, you can almost get a computer and a monitor for that at wal mart

you might also check out e-bay or some of the online computer stores like newegg.

I bought a Samsung Syncmaster 2053BW six months ago on sale for $220 Canadian. You can get it now for $180 or less. I did a lot of research before I bought it. It's a great monitor.
