I've been working on calibrating a Samsung 245BW monitor and am having problems with viewing angle. I have a test portrait that I have repeated 4 times (fills the screen in a 2x2 pattern. When looking straight on at the screen from about 24" the upper 2 images are noticeably darker than the lower 2 (these are actually identical images and have the same readings on the eye dropper). If I raise my angle of view the upper images come into a match with the lower ones until as I continue up the lower ones are darkened. This isn't too unusual except that the optimum vertical viewing angle is about 15-20 deg up angle. This makes for an awkward screen tilt for reliable viewing. It also messes up the Huey calibration which is done straight ahead.
I've also verified the problem with some test targets.
The question I have before I call Samsung is whether anyone else has experience with this monitor and am I expecting too much. In the meantime I picked up a cheap Dell which doesn't exhibit it.
thanks,
frank
