Thumbs up Slide Converter surprises me.

I've been wanting to copy/convert about 3500 slides,dating from 1940-1985.
My daughter gave me a 21C Digital Converter for Christmas, that she got from Walmart.
21C is one of many brand names that are produced by VuPoint.

I had been of the opinion that a good copier would be very expensive, but this unit has surprised me.
It's not perfect but it's a lot better than I expected.
I've copied over 3000 slides since Christmas,so I have some experience in that area.
The unit isn't fast,as it takes about 90 seconds per slide, including loading the slides into the tray, copying, and unloading.
The automatic white balance isn't perfect or quick, but you usually have the opportunity to "grab" the copy when the exposure satisfies you.Saving the copy takes longer than I expected(this is a software limitation,as I'm using a new dual-core pentium PC with 3MB ram).
I thought the slide tray was flimsy,so I got 3 extra ones from Bed,Bath, and beyond for $20. The original tray is still fine, though.
I haven't tried copying negatives yet.
These slides have been stored in an air-conditioned room and few show any sign of degradation. The only ones that have degraded are commercial slides that my Aunt purchased during her travels in Europe and North America. Most of them have faded badly.
These slides date from the 1950's and were taken by an Argus C3 and a rangefinder camera that used 126 cartridges. The copies are likely as good as the original ever was.

Re: Slide Converter surprises me.

Sounds like you have been busy. Glad your project is turning out well. Other than the time involved purchasing the gear is certainly cheaper than having it done for you.

If you end up doing negatives, assume you will also find the results are good. I've done negatives from photos in the 70's & 80's and they have turned out much better than the photos in my albums. I've just been using the assessories that came with my Epson 4180 Photo Scanner which is several years old now.

Thanks for sharing. Nice to know the VuPoint works so well.

Re: Slide Converter surprises me.

Has anyone heard anything about the "Plustek Opticfilm 7500ISE" film scanner? I have to buy something and cannot afford the Nikon that I would prefer. So I am trying to find the next best for little $$$$.

Re: Slide Converter surprises me.

A friend reports that his wife researched all the available slide copying units and chose this one:

He said that she is very happy with it.
