Panasonic DMC-FZ20 vs. Canon XSi

I'm trying to decide if the expense of a Canon XSi w/a second $300, or thereabouts, zoom lens would be a good buy. I already have a Panasonic DMC-FZ20 which is a 12X optical zoom with a 35mm equiv. 36-432. I have the money for the XSi already set aside, but am now wondering if it will give me much better photos. I've been told that the new Canon's give amazing photos. Can anyone give me any insight into this?

Thanks
Peg

I suggest you go to the 1st link. If you are in a hurry, go to the last page with the Pros and Cons summary. It looks like the noise is incredibly high.

I think the correct links are the ones below, since the above links are for the "SX1IS", not the "XSi" the original poster was curious about. The XSi doesn't have a noise problem, but it's a different class of camera than is the SX1IS and the Panasonic. Note that in Europe the "XSi" is called the "450D", so it's not quite as easy for US users to find the right review. Go figure.

here is another comparisson site, I personally don't trust anymore in dpreview, all the cameras they show always are recommended (¿?¿?¿?).

Re: Panasonic DMC-FZ20 vs. Canon XSi

I just realized I had never replied to all the help. Thanks so much. I truly appreciated it. I decided to get the Canon XSi and am very happy with it.

Again Thanks
Peg
