Smart Disk hard drive problem

I have a SmartDisk 80GB portable hard drive for my Mac G5 that I use to transfer large amounts of digital files from my client. The drive will no longer mount to my desk top. No icon visible. I look in Disk Utilities and the drive is not listed. I called, twice, the manufacturer, but no help. It does show up on my clients desktop just fine and we can download RAW, tiff and other files to it. Anyone have any thoughts?

Maybe not enough power from usb.
You might want to try other usb ports if you have them.
I sometimes have trouble using usb through my monitor
for hard drives but if I switch to my usb powered hub, it works fine.

I have a limited knowledge of Mac, PC version would be missing or corrupted driver.
As far as I know, Mac's OS has a fairly sophisticated permission settings. Any chance that USB port got disabled? I believe I had a case in the past trying access a USB port on a Mac and it was nowhere to be found, I was told that USB access was disabled by admin as a security measure and that I can't access USB unless I log in as an admin, or something to that extent.
