Computer: PC Manufacturers with best customer support

I've not had any real complaints about my last several computer purchases, except for their customer support. I think I'll splurge a bit on my next box and go for a company that has support that doesn't say "herro, mah nam ees David, have you tried unplugging your computoor and plugging it back in?"

Have you found a computer manufacturer that has superlative support?

I'll make the obligatory mention of Apple and "I build my own" here, so there's no need to mention those again.

my last computer was a custom bulld. but, it wasnt a 'build my own'. i had a local shop do it. so, there's another option to consider. that puts the whole service issue at the local level and they're all going to be a bit different.

on the off the shelf, order a prebuilt, i havent a clue. the last off the shelf i bought was years ago from wal-mart. lol. it was an e-machine and they've now been bought out. gateway was also bought out, i heard. so, that doesnt leave a lot of options. acer is the one that bought out gateway and e-machine, i think. dell is still hanging in there but seems to have quit advertising and that's not a good sign. HP is still making some, but dont know much about them. their online service isnt too bad. never tried the customer phone service with them.

frankly, i dont know of any pre-builts i'd really recommend. if you want a decent machine with responsible service, find a good shop and have them custom build. a good computer shop is like a good car mechanic... once you find one, dont let them go!
