Dual NEC PA241W-BK-SV Setup

Hi All,

I plan on buying two NEC PA241W-BK-SV, In the USA.

my question is there anyone running a dual NEC setup.

I have a Lenovo W701 ThinkPad, with a mini dock 2.0. Using Windows 7 Pro, NVIDA FX 3800M card, The outputs are: one Display port, one Dual-Link DVI-D, and one VGA I will not use the VGA port.

I was thinking of using Matrox TripleHead2Go DP Edition. If you have a dual NEC setup can you give details on your setup?

Any help on a dual NEC Display setup would be appreciated.

Thank You in advance.

Did not know if you already purchased your monitors but was looking at the same one and found it for about 550. http://www.edexdeals.com/StoreFront/...MONITOR-LCD-24
I will also post this on the original thread.

Re: Dual NEC PA241W-BK-SV Setup

Hi All,

I have not purchased my two NEC PA241W-BK-SV Displays at this point, I
Am still doing my due diligence on the NEC PA241W-BK-SV.
And I will be buying from NEC online store to avoid any problems down the road...

I do have a question for you, is anyone using BasICColor over SpectraView II
There seems to be a difference, BasICColor is giving a better result.
SpectraView Profiler European Software

See the TFT Central Review on the NEC PA271W this is applicable to the NEC PA241W as well

Any information on this would be appreciated…

Thank You in advance.

Re: Dual NEC PA241W-BK-SV Setup

You want to use SpectraView II to drive this display. In Europe, instead of SpectraView, there is a special version designed for this display using a variant of BasICColor. You can’t even get SpectraView. If you are in Europe, that’s what you’ll want and will get with the bundle. In the US you’ll get SpectraView II. The bottom line is to use the software specifically written for this hardware!

Hi Andrew,

I know I am over thinking this.

but in the review he states that the US SpectraView II
Software the version I will be getting can calibrate at a hardware level, but only a
Matrix based profile is used.

The Euro software can create a hardware based table profile which is superior in accuracy.

What’s up with that

Re: Dual NEC PA241W-BK-SV Setup

He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. There’s nothing inherently better or necessary for this kind of display using a matrix vs. a LUT based profile. IF NEC USA felt it necessary to write a LUT profile, they would do so. Its not difficult to do at all. The calibration is by and large all happening in high bit in the display, a LUT is not necessary for the profile. His mindset is that bigger is always and must be better. That’s not the case.

The text makes this bias clear:
Quote:
The US version (v1.1.05) of the SpectraView II software allowed full correction at a hardware LUT level using a matrix profile, making use of the 14-bit 3D LUT and providing significant benefits beyond what we can really tell from these reports.

Andrew,

That’s what I thought as well…

Thank You for clearing that up…

I like your article.

I will have more questions about calibration once they arrive.

Thank You,

Re: Dual NEC PA241W-BK-SV Setup

Hi All,

I ordered two PA241W-BK-SV, the first two arrived damaged so they went back to NEC.
My replacements are on their way, but I am concerned about the
Pixels per inch (PPI) or Pixel Density of just 94

Everything will be to large, what can I do about this.

My W701 has a PPI of 133

Well with my new PA271W, its 23.5 inches driven at 2560 which works out to 108.9, what are you driving the PA241W at? Its 20.5 inches.

Hi Andrew,

I sent them back to NEC do to damage, but the replacements are on their way.

From what I remember the measurements are about 20.4in wide by 12.75in high.

1920 x 1200 = PPI = √(〖1920〗^2+〖1200〗^2 )
-----------------------
24

PA241W - PPI = 94.3398

Re: Dual NEC PA241W-BK-SV Setup

Just measure the horizontal length of the display and divide by the horizontal values you set for the screen rez, you get the dpi output. 94 is what I get too (although I’d hope you can drive this higher that 1920, no?).

Hi Andrew,

No, 1920 is max.

Even with Matrox triplehead2go it would be 1920 * 2 = 3840,
but windows will not let me go beyond 1920 at 50Hz

I believe you are hardware limited to 1920 because of your computer and graphics cards. With an old Power PC Mac I am limited to 1920 as well with a PA271w. Is not an issue with the 2010 Mac Pros with the same monitor.

Your PA271W at 1920, do you have to view it in letterbox?

No, it is normal view. Not stretched nor letterboxed, just lower resolution than the capabilities of the monitor.

Hi Fostercat,

If I understand you right, your running your PA271W at 1920 x 1200 and your
Getting 108.9 let’s say 109 PPI form your monitor?

The reason I ask I’m thinking of exchange my PA241W for the PA271W
For the 109 PPI, it will be closer to my Lenovo W701’s PPI which is 133 PPI

If you are running your PA271W at 1920 x 1200 and getting 108.9 PPI
That will work for me, the 94 PPI from the PA241W is just too low.

Yes.
I think you will appreciate the 27 over the 24. I've run into this, and it may pertain to your problem as well, not a hardware block per se, but a connector issue. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1065765

Re: Dual NEC PA241W-BK-SV Setup

Hi all,

Just an update:

I just received my two new NEC PA271W-BK-SV’s…

The Displays are sweeeet, and well worth the money and excellent right out of the box. The PPI of 109 is just right. My NVIDIA FX 3800M graphics card instantly accepted the resolution of 2560 x 1440 with on problems one PA271W on Dual – link DVI-D, and one PA271W on Display port.

Now there is one thing, my setup is Dual – link DVI-D “Digital” as my main display on my left and the Display port on my right side, for some reason the DisplayPort was numbered 1 and the Digital Display was numbered two.

What can I do about this, is there a way to renumber the displays in windows 7 pro

Here is my first calibration; I still have a lot to learn about this display.

To take advantage of the displays wide gamut, I calibrated in the native (Full mode).
