Monitors: Display recommendation

Anyone have recommendations for professional retouching-level display as alternative to 27" glass screen Apple Cinema? I would love some input. Need to make a decision soon. I've been shooed away from Samsung. Eizo is an option but most models outside my budget ($1500 on the high end). Anyone know if the low end Eizo's measure up to other brands in the price range? People have recommended NEC but which model is best? Looking for 27-30" range. Thanks in advance!

There is nothing at all special about Apple displays and that’s been the case for years. Other than their nice looks, nothing that makes it an especially good display for calibration and thus imaging work. Look for something in your budget within the NEC SpectraView II line and account for their software and an instrument for the calibration. They bundle this all (or sell ala carte), but the bundle is usually the way to go. We’re talking a high bit panel with software designed to drive it, that’s key!

The PA271W is their newest 27”.

Thanks Andrew. Always great to get your recommendations in particular. I currently use an Eye-One Display2. Any reason to go with NECs version or will this do the trick? Thanks again!

You can use that instrument with their software (you want to drive the calibration with their SpectraView software).

don't know how it is but it seems to be a very good one. we need to ask Andrewrodney about it.

Never seen one, not sure I’ve even heard of this company till now. Its only a 24” but it is a 10-bit panel which is a good sign. No idea about the software or other controls.
