Scanner recommendation please I'm helping a local historical society to convert their photos and negatives for eventual viewing on their website. They have a mix of standard photos of all sizes and several different sizes of negatives, slides and including glass negatives. Appreciate any advice on the best scanner to buy to scan the photos and convert the negatives to positive images. Thanks!

Re: Scanner recommendation please What is your scanner budget? What is the largest size of negatives? Can you afford to buy a dedicated neg/slide scanner and a flatbed for for the prints and glass negs? Assuming you want a scanner that can handle prints and neg/slides including large format glass plates then the Epson V750 comes to mind followed by the V700. These units will handle negatives up to 8"x10". The cheaper V600 will only handle negs up to medium format - although it may be possible to scan a larger negative in strips and join in PS. The resolution (and Dmax) of the 750 and 700 is higher than the 600. While the manufacturers claim of 6400 dpi is correct the fact remains that this is not a true measure of resolving power and the actual figure equates to around 2000+ dpi for the 700 series and around 1500+ dpi for the 600. Having said that the 600 is perfectly capable of giving very acceptable results IMO - I use the older V500 and considering the price I am very happy with the quality

Re: Scanner recommendation please The budget is flexible, I just want to make sure they get the right one. I don't think they have any 8 by 10 negatives but will find out. Thanks for the info.
