Re: Where is the new Mac Pro

I've been wondering about the Mac Pro line ever since iMovie Pro (I mean Final Cut X) came out. I followed the fallout over that and video pros were losing all kinds of trust in Apple. I haven't kept up since so I don't know how they feel now, but obviously the Pro line seems not a priority.

The iToys are wildly successful, so that's where the focus goes.

The Apple Insider link about used a Hackintosh for their tests. I think that may be the future for fans of OSX who need serious computer horsepower but aren't getting it from Apple (license violations notwithstanding). I haven't tried it myself, but I think it's cool that it's possible.

As for Gatekeeper, I heard rumors of this a couple of years ago from some developer, and it creeped me out. We understand Apple offers a closed system (as opposed to the approach taken by Microsoft) for the supposed benefit of its users, but it sometimes feels more like a freeway being squeezed into one lane...

I wonder how large developers like Adobe will handle this-? Maybe their software can be verified via certificate while being sold through normal channels, I don't know.

Re: Where is the new Mac Pro

I have a Mac Pro from about 2007 in the office running Lion Server (lab management). Indeed they are customizable, the only Macs that are so. The last iMacs you could get inside to swap parts, etc. were the white G5s. Which was good, because the capacitors on that model swelled like Jiffy Pop and necessitated a motherboard replacement!
