Affordable quality monitor for retouching

May sound like an oxymoron, especially to those doing post processing for a living, but for many of us enthusiasts the quest for balancing affordability and quality in an monitor is a must. Is there something under $300? What should I look for when choosing monitor for retouching? Should I buy LCD or LED?

Do you think this monitor will be fine for photo editing?
LG Flatron IPS235V-BN - LCD monitor 23"
or maybe this one?
Asus ML239H - LCD monitor 23"

Re: Affordable quality monitor for retouching

The LED is also a LCD
What you must look is for an IPS/PLS(178º viewing angle) panel
and AVOID the TN(less than 178º viewing angle) panel
About TN/IPS/PLS http://goo.gl/H5yZv

My preference would be:
Asus PA238Q http://goo.gl/u1oSj
DELL U2312HM http://goo.gl/cT4ku
But LG IPS235v is ok, see http://goo.gl/Nl8EB

Anyone interested in buying a monitor for photo work check the reviews:
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews.htm
http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/reviews.html
In the Prad reviews pay attention to:
-The UGRA test (download the PDF)
-The panel brightness distribution
-The gamut coverage (good place to compare http://goo.gl/Rjvqh)
-Profile accuracy and the calibration curves, the good ones are in 45º http://goo.gl/rrtYk
-The contrast is the least important as any monitor have more contrast than any paper print.

Re: Affordable quality monitor for retouching

Thanks for the links. Those reviews are a bit complicated for me, but interesting

Asus PA238Q and LG IPS235v are only 6-bit, right? Is this a problem?
