Guidance on purchasing a monitor

Hi, It has been a few years since anyone has posted any recommendations on monitors for retouching. I was wondering what people's current recommendations are?

I'm currently using an iMac, 5k, retina 27", late 2015, calibrated with colormunki, as my main monitor. I know Apple monitors don't have a great reputation among retouchers, but it gives me good enough results.

My second monitor has died and needs replacing. It was a place where I mostly parked my palettes on and where I would put reference images on when they were needed. I had a fairly low-end NEC monitor for that purpose, a multisync EX231wp, and was pretty happy with it for the price. I did, however, stop calibrating it frequently, because the colors on the same image never appeared the same when I would move the image back and forth between the iMac and the Nec.

I'm looking to replace that monitor with a new one, around 24" wide, and perhaps get something better than what I had before, but for under $1000. I do prefer fairly high resolution monitors.

Do those Nec monitors with the dangling spectrometer devices deliver more accurate color profiles than colormunki or just speed up the process of color profiling?

What do you recommend for under $1000?

Thanks.

Thank you, Antony. That looks like a nice monitor. I want to go to a store and check that monitor out along with some others.

See if you can find a SpectraView (EA perhaps) better yet, PA model.

I agree with Andrew, NEC is the way to go. However, if price is a determining factor you may want to check out Asus Pro Art monitors.
