What will make Epson ink blur?

Hello,

I am printing a project using an Epson 870 photo printer. I have a very slight banding which for the most part is not an issue except it is also on the subjects face. Rather than ditch the 18 copies that I've already printed I was wondering if anyone has a technique that would minimize the banding on the printouts. I tried water (apparently Epson has really improved inkjet ink because it didn't blur at all!), fixatif, an eraser (okay I was grasping at straws!) Any other ideas? 100% of the people I have shown these to have said that can't tell at all that there is a problem. Maybe I'm being too critical but that's just how I am.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I have the 1270 (big brother to the 870) and I get that banding unless I go into the advanced printing control panel and set the printing resolution to "Photo Quality - 1440dpi".

Hi Doug,

I printed these at 720 and usually don't have trouble. I should have know better than to send all the pages at once.

I'll try 1440 next time. Just wish I could salvage these.

Thanks

On a PC if you go into the printers section of control panel you should be able to set the defaults by right clicking and selecting properties. I keep my 950 set to Matt Paper and high quality as that is the settings I use most.

I have a 925. This problem is caused in fast print mode, when the print head prints on both the outward and back stroke of the head, and is due to very minor mis-alignments of the head. Try aligning the head using the in built facilities on the printer, if the problem persists, print at high quality, this is slower as the head only prints on the outward stroke, but will get rid of the banding.
