Buffalo Soldier Monument

The Buffalo Soldier Monument, the brainchild of General Colin Powell, is an addition to Fort Leavenworth's historic landmarks. Dedicated in 1992, the monument honors the African-American soldiers who served in the 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments.

Colonel Benjamin Grierson formed the 10th Cavalry on 21 September 1866 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. It, along with the 9th Cavalry, 24th and 25th Infantry, formed the first all-black regiments in the Regular United States Army.

Buffalo Soldier Song:

"There was a buffalo soldier in the heart of america,
Stolen from africa, brought to america,
Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival."

Photo shot with a very old point and shoot Canon PowerShot S1 IS.. using the AHDRIA programs (found here ) then into Photomatix for tonemapping with some final tweaking in PS 7..

Re: Buffalo Soldier Monument

Nice job, OlBaldy. You really brought out a lot of detail in the statue. And thank you for the backstory. It enhanced the picture to have it.
