Unhappy Dynamic Duo: "Could not complete your request

because the file could not be found."

I have just installed Photoshop Elements 4.0, the Hidden Power tools for that version, and the Dynamic Image tools. The icons for the color correct and dynamic image tools appear in the effects pallet. These three files are in the Hidden Power Dynamic Duo folder:
Color Correct.atn
Dynamic Image.atn
Hidden_Power_Dynamic.psd

That folder is in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 4.0\effects (on a PC, obviously).

When I load an image in the editor and double-click either tool in the effects pallet, I get the error message, "Could not complete your request because the file could not be found."

I've deleted the cache and reset several times, to no avail.

Can anyone tell me what's going wrong here?

Thanks!

Will

Hey, I can! I answered my own question.

The files that belong in the Dynamic Duo folder are these:

arrow.jpg
Color Correct.atn
Dynamic Image.atn
step1a.gif
step 1b.gif
step2a.gif
step2b.gif
step3a.gif
step3b.gif
step4a.gif
step4b.gif
step5a.gif
step5b.gif
step6a.gif
step6b.gif
thumbs.psd

When I unzipped Dynamic_Image_4.0.zip, no directories were created. I had to sort out what went in the folder myself.

Re: Dynamic Duo: "Could not complete your request

If the files you got were just unzipped without any containing folder, there must be some incompatability between the ZIP utility you used and the one I did. Regretfully that can happen. HOWEVER, there is also a readme file that contains the information you were looking for, and there is a troubleshooting area on my website where you purchased the tools that should also have these answers.

If there is anything I can help with, please let me know.

Re: Dynamic Duo: "Could not complete your request

I believe I read the readme file over 20 times, on-screen and printed out. (Is there more than one?) I'd suggest that you add a list of which files go where after successful installation. That way, if the folders don't get created, users can "manually" put them in the right place.

I used Winzip 9x, and there were some files with unrecognized types that apparently were supposed to be the directories.

In any event, I'm now dynamicing away.

Cheers,

Will

Re: Dynamic Duo: "Could not complete your request

Like i said, if your ZIP utility is not recognizing the stored hierarchy, it is not the fault of the package. These files should NOT all end up in the same place. There are also several files you seem not to list, including:

basic_color_correct_readme.html
dynamic_image_readme.html
readme.html

The images you reference DO NOT belong in the Effects area, as that may cause issues.

My recommendation is to take the ZIP file and unzip it with a recommended utility. There are recommended utilities on the web pages.

As far as listing files...have you ever seen Adobe list all the files that get installed for Photoshop? That is not a usual obligation. The installation instructions say this:

NOTE: When unzipped there should be a folder named Hidden Power Dynamic Image which contains the following files: Hidden_Power_Dynamic.atn, Hidden_Power_Basic_Color.atn, Hidden Power Dynamic Image.psd.

Those are the files you are interested in.

Get the right unzip utility and none off this is an issue.

If you continue to have problems, let me know and I'll forward another version zipped with a different packager.

Re: Dynamic Duo: "Could not complete your request

About the dynamic duo: will there be a PSE6 version? I still keep my French PSE5 version, but a few tools give me errors (layer names not found for instance) and I would prefer to install them in PSE6. Apart from installation tools, is the dynamic duo working in PSE6?

Richard,

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure where I went wrong, but it's working fine now.

Re: Dynamic Duo: "Could not complete your request

may have been a caching issue, or that you did not shut down and restart -- or even if you did that for whatever reasons it took two tries. While computers shouldn't think, I find they sometimes display a will of their own that is difficult to explain.
