Ok, that worked don't know why it didn't the first time.

dark & flair

Here's one I took last night. How would you approach the flair? I tried the clone tool but looked bad. The bricks make it difficult to replace with a selection.

Clearly I needed to move to get the mic stand out of the way. this pictures not worth huge amounts of time but my wife wants to give to the performer. It is too dark also although i did use an one camera "fill" flash on it.

one more

this one "Award" is more typical of my original post. This was take at f2.8 1/60s by underexposing. I also took some at 1/30s which are of course brighter but more blurred with movement.

Flair & awards.

Lary;
I tried to work on the flair but gave up and just replaced the background. Selected with the magic wand, cleaned up selection with the selection brush, inverted, copied, layer > new layer via copy, made a new blank layer filled with color from the original, added brick texture. Moved this layer just below the selection layer. Cropped. Took out the microphone while I was at it. Selected the good side of the face, copied, layer > new layer via copy, rotate> flip layer horizonally, move tool to allign the eye, cloned out the microphone. Brightened with levels, then sharpened.

I duplicated the award image and changed the mode to screen twice then added a selective color adjustment layer reducing the yellow by -50. Then sharpened strength 18, radius 50, threshold 0. Since I did not know the true color of the drapes I left it alone after reducing the yellow. Cropped.

Just some of many ways you can use PS Elements. CaseyJ

Wow - thanks Casey
I'm especially impressed with the Flair photo. I though I was being crazy for considering removing the mic stand - thought it would take too much time and not look good. They'll be real pleased with your result. It never occurred to me to just replace the whole wall - much simplier than the things I was trying. As soon as i get time I'll try to work through your steps on the original files.

I think the colors on the Award are pretty close. I know the OSU drape was that red and the other colors look right. Perhaps the blue pads in back we not quite as saturated in real life but the other pictures all seem like this. I think when I underexpose the blues seem to be overly strong and more noisy than the other layers.

Thanks again

Lary
