Hi All. I have a novice question for you. I have an old photograph that I'd like to know what "type" of photo it is. I'm hesitant to call it a tintype, as it doesn't seem to have enough "tin" in its composition. There is a metal back plate, and the picture itself is on a ... varnished paper? If it were a modern photo I'd say the paper was plastic. Based on the age of the little girl in the photo (my grandmother), it was taken about 1919, give or take a year. (she was born in 1916) At some point in the past the picture had cracked and some industrious soul scotch taped it -- Front and Back. When I removed the tape, the picture broke into three pieces. It is very brittle and has curled so much I don't dare scan it. Can I use a humidifier to uncurl it? Is there any solvent safe enough to remove the leftover tape sticky? And just what type of photo is this? My family only has one or two others like this one.

Thank you in advance for your help.
