Is this repairable?

I took this shot almost 40 years ago while serving in Vietnam, it was a slide that got stuck in the projector and this is the result. I scanned it into my computer and now I wonder if I can do some repair work on it id that is possible. I have Photoshop CS2 although I am a mere novice and just really learning the program. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Is this repairable?

Just a quickie using PS7.. the color is still off but looks a little better to me..
Cloned in some hair and cloned the holes.. reduced noise some..

It may not look pristine but I think you could repair this 40 year old enough to be acceptable

Re: Is this repairable?

Hey, Granny, how'd you lighten it that well without washing it out completely? (yes, although not a complete noob, I have a ways to go before I can do more than clean up old tears and dust specks ... which still impresses the relatives.)

The procedure I used is outlined here.. "Restoring an old photograph" by Cameraken

Re: Is this repairable?

I used mainly targeted curves with masking, level adjustments, some cloning & healing.

Re: Is this repairable?

I think the important part of this image is the face, so I worked on fixing only that. The first one is with color correction, and the second one also has some sharpening applied.

Re: Is this repairable?

To Granny: Wow, thanks. I had seen that tutorial and bookmarked it, but haven't had the chance to put it to use yet. Now I'm really itching to.
