Transparent Image for use in print.
 

I need to make the attached logo into a transparent background image so it can be used on a colored background without the nefarious white box surrounding it. I have no problem with the text, but the covered bridge logo pops up with white"cotton clouds". Can anyone recommend a way around this?

I believe there is a filter or plug-in in Photoshop that takes care of that problem, it removes whites or blacks.

Also there is the alternative of "blend if" and there is a thread dealing with that technique.

Will look for the filter I mention above and if I find it will post it here.

Hi Christo,

I first duplicated your image, created another layer between them filled with colour (I used grey).

Go to channels, select any channel and make it an alpha. Convert to selection.

Go to top image in your stack and Edit/Cut.

Discard the background layer and save as a PSD file.

Now to put your logo on another image, simply copy the top layer, and paste onto your image.

So much to learn in Photoshop ! I copied the steps you describe above and will certainly practice this method. Channels and Alpha or otherwise were (are) like unknown territory for me :blush:

With a black Logo/writing on a white background (just like yours) there is even an easier way to do it ... :wink:

If you don't mind keeping the black color of the Logo/writing just select and copy it out (like you did here), paste it on top of your new Background and simply set the Logo/writing Layer's blending to 'Multiply' ....

If you want to be able to change the colour of your Logo/writing follow Gary's excellent Tip!

Another Way

Open the image in Photoshop

Edit > Define Brush

Now you can stamp it in any colour or opacity or size you want.

I re-read my post and could barely understand it myself!!! :o:

Ok ... here is what I meant:

1. Select and cut/copy the logo.. (exactly like you did with the one you posted)
   
   
2. Open the new Background you want to place your logo on ...
   
   
3. Paste your logo (Layer1) on the new background and place it on the desired spot with the 'Move Tool' (Attachment 1)
   
   
4. Change the Logo Layer (Layer1) blending to Multiply' .... (Attachment 2)
