Large files for RP

I may end up "putting my mouse in my mouth" here, but I notice that there seems to be a bit of an issue with 100k limit images to work on at times.
There is a site, http://www.yousendit.com/ where by, you can send files up to 1 gig in size for free. They will host your file for viewing for a week.
Has anyone ever investigated the possabilities in that line to pick up an image with more resolution to work on where needed ?

I use it for sending images back and forward to clients. But really the purpose of the file attachments here is so people can preview them, and access them permanently. It's a huge bonus that you can browse through threads that are years old and still access all the images. Something like yousendit, is only a short term file exchange mechanism.

DARCgull, sometimes I regard RetouchPRO more like Retouch College. It's not really about posting finished products, more about asking questions and getting some good answers.

The images, to me anyway, are more like exercises (or homework ) - where the the main point isn't the result, but the means to get there.
Looking at it this way, 100K is normally sufficient.

For those that participate in the "arty" forums, 100K can get a bit cramped. Two important features of the images posted there are texture and "brush strokes". Often the JPG compression will just smother everything. An alternative there is to post the full image, and also post a cropped-in close-up.

The best alternative, if you want to post a larger image (either "input" or " output") is to put up a link to some another site that is specialized in image storage. Many people use PBase, I particularly use Flickr.

..Another thing to remember is that many folk have dial-ups. So opening up an image with much more than 100K would force a coffee (or tea) break!

...and we don't get to clog up Doug's drives with too many unnecessary pixels

OK, probably answered more than you asked, but you look kinda funny with that mouse tail hanging out of your mouth.

cough -- cough

(sorry byro, let go the cord to type a thanks for that and the darned mouse shot through on me, hope it wasn't a doormouse)
Anyway, you mention the use of a hosting site. I use smugmug, if you have a moment, could you lay out the steps for linking Smugmug and Repro for me.
Also, I heartily agree with your second sentence on each image being a learning curve, every post has something we can learn from it, even if it is that I have a weird sence of humour

Did this reply a couple of weeks ago......

Ah, ]here[/b] it is. Any questions, just blast away.

Maybe you should get a tablet. That stylus should be a lot easier to digest.
