I post 2 examples, first made with Replace Color, second with iCorrect filter.
First photo:
1. Fuziness = ~170
2. Pick Selection
3. Pick white area on the right lady
4. Saturation = -100
P.S. asarfati, only $5 for retouching a photo?

Path to selection

I don't know why the selection turns white. After using the pen tool to make the path I opened up the paths palette and loaded the path as a selection and the selection ants started their crawl.

Philbach, I don't know if I understand very well your problem but I try an example that could be near your question:
After using pen tool selecting (Paths button selected) an work area, is created a Work Path. Then, Load path as a selection. In menu Edit - Copy Merged. Back to Layers and Paste. Is created a new layer with selected area of your Work Path and you can play aroud it. Is this your problem or not? Sorry for my poor english.

White area and Paths

The White area is the area that the path defines. So if you filled the path that is the area that would be filled. So if you change to subtract and make a new path the outer area is shown white and the inner area of the path is shown gray, if you fuill now the out area is filled not the area you made with the path

Re: Gray Card

one of my images turns too blue when i use the middle eyedropper in CS2
on the grey card, what could that be? i am working in ECIRGB.

i dont have these black and white fields in the graycard images i get usually from photographers, they use a simple grey card with grey only.

i usually do it very simple and quick:
place the greycardimage by "duplicate image" one layer over the actual image. then i open one adjustement levels layer and select the medium eyedropper. then i pick one point in the greycard and trash the greycard image.

what do you think, is this correct? it works almost with every image.
but today one of them got far too blue (it had too much yellow)
