bring back the kid

Hi Folks, A friend of mine had this photo of his Granddaughter and although it was done by a proffessional who now cant be contacted it has faded ,so obviousely the printer ink he used was substandard as it had not been displayed in the sun. What would be the best way to reclaim this image using Photoshop CS2?

Bring Back The Kid

Peter, the image fading is so uneven that the image has become posterized. My approaches would be one of the following:

1. Duplicate the image and blend in Multiply mode to rebuild some density. Then hand recolor, which should be fairly easy since there is not a ton of fine detail. You couls extract the child to a new background or just also recolor the original.

2. Convert the image to B&W, rebuild some density, and hand smooth out the blotchy areas.

Regards, Murray
