black background & black hair

See the back ground is the same color as all their hair I want to remove the background and just have the people in the picture with hair. When I try they end up bald please help!

If you start with a higher resolution image, you should be able to use the Extract Filter in PS to remove the subjects with their hair intact.

This is about as good as I could get with the picture you posted.

I used the extract filter in PS7, then hand touched using history brush and eraser.

You should be able to get better results with a larger picture.
