Re: Remove white cast from photo

new layer mod: overlay
fill balck about 70% (try other values over 50%)
make a layer mask
fill black
soft brush color: white op: about 7-15%
start to paint unwanted lights on (work on the mask)
merge layers
copy background mode lighten
get the color of the brick upper left
semihard brush mode color op: over 30%
paint the bricks in the background
merge layers
in the back there is a catchlight (I hope, sorry about my english) on the face so I think we need one in the front

copy background
levels
set the gamma about 0.3
layer mode soft light
make a layer mask
press D
make gradient from left to right I started and finished on the tree in the background

U can fade every procedure to change the layer opacity

Re: Remove white cast from photo

Well I used a levels adjustment layer and then after that copied the image and used a multiply blending mode with a layer mask and painted the mask where correction was needed. Later on a blank layer using overlay blending mode I painted black or white on the layer to darken or lighten various areas.

Re: Remove white cast from photo

The source is quite small, but I tried using a combination of hue/sat, curves, contrast, burn/dodge.

Hi Gerald... not much to add with technique... not easy to reduce the white and bring in contrast.

Re: Remove white cast from photo

I thank everyone for their help and ideas, but I'm having some problem in bring back some definitions in the lady on the right-side. Her face still have some white cast. I tried the multiply mode but her face came out too dark without any definition. I'm also having some problem in removing all of the white cast from the brick wall.

Re: Remove white cast from photo

Hi Gerald

Not sure if I used curves or a colorburn neutral layer... but either one will increase the contrast... That should help with her face.

Myself I just replaced the whole brick wall... much easier then playing with the damage. I found one similar to the wall on the left then free transformed to get the scale right. Then a hide all mask and I painted it in where needed.

Question Re: Remove white cast from photo

Hi, there.

Daviskw, when you say a colorburn neutral layer, do you mean a layer filled with a neutral grey set to color burn, or do you mean an empty layer set to color burn?

(Sorry if that's a stoopid question! )

.... Not perfect, but it can be done by corrections for brightness, contrast, colour and sharpness selectively applied to small areas.

Re: Remove white cast from photo

Flora, I've been trying a lot of examples for the last few days but their faces came out too dark and they faces doesn't have much definition at all. I'm still having some trouble removing all of the white cast or haze from the photo, moreover, I can't get the definition back in both of the faces. I would appreciate if you would write down exactly what you had done to come out with your result. I appreciated some of the examples of some of the people but when I tried some of them it seems that I'm missing something. I had noticed that you had removed all of the white cast completely. The picture seems a lot sharper and both of the faces have a lot of definition. I can see the features in their faces. I thank everyone for their help.

Gerald
