Re: Any hope for this Moiré?

jarthel, welcome to RetouchPro. Have a look around and enjoy. Nice to have you onboard.

Desaturate.. Shft+Ctrl+U

Select layer you want mask on
Layer menu>Add Layer Mask>Reveal All
OR
Layer Pallet.. At the bottom Click the square with the circle

For your picture I took a different approach..
FFT filter then a bunch of channel refinements and noise removal using various noiseware softwares plus a lot of trial and error tweaks of which, most I do not remember which worked and those that didn't.

A better scan of the original would probably result in much better representation

FFT FILTER WITH PHOTOSHOP ACTION (easy to use action)

Thought I would add that a much simpler way would be to use Image Analyzer under Filters>Frequency Domain Filter (Free) Does a fine job.. Paint stars click OK and do some other corrections while in the program also.

how about "mask out all areas that didn't have Moire to begin with"? how do I do this?

thanks again

Re: Any hope for this Moiré?

That means with the mask selected, paint with black over everything that does not have a Moire effect.. like the candle sticks, other furniture etc..

If you are working on your picture.. there is no Moire effect.. what you have looks like the effects of partially removing photographic paper texture.. Initially using the FFT filter or Image Analyzer to remove the paper texture (before you did any work on it) would have been more appropriate for your picture
