Image Help - - Fixing hair

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had some good photoshop 7 tips for fixing frizzy hair. I want to enhance the texture and darkness of the hair in the attached photo. Ideally I would like the color and consistency of the whole head of hair to match the strands immediately behind her right ear. Basically, darker, thicker, glossier is what I'm going for. Thanks.

Very pretty girl!
In trying to darken the hair I dup. layer, layer mode to multiply, masked out the rest of her..then painted (very light spray paint) in some dark areas over her left ear and around the hair outside edges. Then once I got the hair where I liked it I cleaned up the skin a little, mellowed out the sheen on the forehead and nose. ran a curve to lighten the image a little.

Ok, at the risk of sticking my foot in my mouth...why would you want to fix her hair? I think she is beautiful the way she is. Her smile is bright. Her eyes are delightful, sweet, and intelligent. Her expression is joyful and mischievous at the same time. The only thing I might work on is the overexposure at the top of the photo; you know, even things out a bit more across the board.

Just my humble two cents worth. But since you asked. All I did was a levels adjustment with the bottom 2/3 or so of the picture blacked out. I hope this helps.

This is my try. Duplicated layer and used the degrunge method as found in the tutorial on this site. Also, used the burn tool to darken the hair a little more. The blown out sky still needs some work.

I think it needs some adjustments only, like:
Exposure, levels, noise removal, curves …

Restoring contrast lost to lens flare made the hair darker and more alive.

The wide angle made her head balloon. I corrected that with the lens distortion filter.

The blue car was distracting.

The collar is more in focus than the eyes. Your camera may be back-focusing. Do some tests to see if this was only a one-time issue. I sharpened the eyes only to minimize this problem.

Did a really quick job on this
1/ duplicated layer
2/ erased everything but background and hair.
3/ set layer mode to duplicate
4/ colour adjustment to remove blue tint
5/ used burn tool to even out hair contrast.
6/ flattened and resized image, and posted it here

Oh and one other thing ~ I'm using Photoshop 7 - so I don't have the lens distortion filter. Can I achieve the same effect with the spherize tool?

maybe the distort tool may be more appropriate under edit/transform
