| | | Sad reason to ask for help... My Mom passed away and I want the best possible image of her to appear in the paper. The attached image is cut from a candid shot of Mom with one of her grandsons. That's his arm you see.
I can remove the arm, but since the printed image will be black and white, I'm afraid that the shadow behind her head will look too dominant.
I've not done anything like this before. Does anyone here have experience in getting the best image for an obituary.
Being the weekend, the newspaper is not answering the phone so I can't ask them.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I have tried a couple of things on the image that might give you some ideas.

Cropped the shot slightly, adjusted levels a little, and extracted your mum to a new BG. |

| | | Re: Sad reason to ask for help... Margaret -- sorry to hear that your mother passed on, I hope it wasn't too painful.
Your mom was probably a bit like mine was about not wanting her photo taken often -- we used an old portrait that she had done probably 10 years earlier because we didn't have any other good ones.
Don't know if you'll think either of these looks like her, but I'll submit them both and you'll have lots of choices with all the others that folks are doing.

| | | Re: Sad reason to ask for help... Thank you all for your responses. You've all been kind to Mom.
She was 82 when this picture was taken in 2003 and as you can see, she had very few lines on her face.
I will pick from among your offerings and use one of them for the paper.
Thanks again.
