please help..getting rid of face mask

Could anybody help me with this photo.. I would like to be able to get rid of the white face mask and return the skin to its normal colour..I tried cloning from whats available around the eyes but it just gives mush with no texture. patching or colour replacement doesn't work either. It's probably really easy but I haven't any idea..Thanks in advance for your help..

Re: please help..getting rid of face mask

Hi There

I used the healing brush and curves to get close.... then I used levels set to luminosity and used the mask to adjust brightness as needed. Finally I used the degrunge routine to even things out.

Difficult to work on this without losing texture.

Didn't have time really to get a satisfactory result, the image posted below is after about 30 mins work. Sorry, don't have time to work on it further at the moment.

Mostly just cloning, with a little hand colouring and some spot level adjustments.

Re: please help..getting rid of face mask

Had a little extra time, so I came back to this one.

Added a softlight layer filled with 50% grey, then painted with a soft 5% black brush, so take out some of the highlights.

New colour layer, sampled colour from cheek area and painted whole face, then reduced layer opacity to about 20%

Purpose of both being to even out tone and colour across the face.

I think it looks a tad better.

Re: please help..getting rid of face mask

Here's my try ...

ByRo's degrunge technique twice and some color balance and enhancement.

Re: please help..getting rid of face mask

thought I would try the "Color Deconvolution" filter by C.E.H. Berger on this...

Using the filter I selected the mask color as unwanted ... a light part around the eyes as wanted ... and a darker part around the eyes as background.. let the filter do its magic then masked back the eyes, hair and original background.. did a lil levels on the masked face ...

Granny

Great result Granny.

I feel eminently qualified to comment after working this image for about an hour or so.
