I need help to check on colour cast

Hello experts,

I would like to request for your kind help looking at this picture attached to see if it has a colour cast of some kind. Many of my friends told me my pictures all have a yellow colour cast on them. Maybe it could be from my Sigma lenses that often give a warm tone to my images. Not too sure.

My notebook LCD is not calibrated. I tried to calibrate using Adobe Gamma provided with CS2 but the results sucks.

I have done retouched on this image. The only thing I am having trouble is whether my image has that yellow cast on it. I have already added a 15% Blue Filter on it.

Please help. Thanks.

Hi Zeckson.
On my monitor it looks fine, no color-cast at all.

Re: I need help to check on colour cast

I don't show a yellow cast at all.

In fact, it's showing a tiny, tiny blue cast.

I agree with Bill. Just a tiny blue cast. Dupe the background then do a Filter->Blur Average and set that to Over lay mode and see what you get.

Just curious Swampy, what does that do?
By the way I also get the slight blue tint, but it's gone when I do the "Swampy thing"

Re: I need help to check on colour cast

Hi there

I think you need to add a little yellow. Right now you have too much magenta compared to yellow and too much cyan as well... that is why there is a slight blue gray look to the skin.

Perhaps if they are viewing on your monitor your calibration may be the problem

Butch

Using the info palette

I placed a color sampler on her white bow and used the info palette which showed a blue cast. Using a curves adjustment layer I placed the white eyedropper on the bow to correct the color to a neutral white.

I tried swampy's method too and it worked just fine. I'd like to know a little about that too.

Re: I need help to check on colour cast

I see a very blue cast...or cyan. I'm not good at picking out which one. But it's definitely too cool. Philbach's result looks good.

Britsdad...

>>> It's from my "Average-Blur" Tutorial. It removes an overall color cast for some, but not all photos.

Re: I need help to check on colour cast

There is certainly no yellow cast, in fact very little yellow in the picture at all. I think the skin tones look really good. I don't think you have a blue cast either, and though you could add a touch of green in the highlights (Opposite of Magenta), I think that is just personal taste. You can use the info palette to determine the actual color that is on the screen. A good check is to find a very white spot and look for 255,255,255 to see if you have a color cast. The ribbon is very close to that.
Nice Photo.

Dave.

Hello all,

Thank you so much for trying to help out! I was glad so many responded! And also learn some techniques in checking for colour casts as well! Really appreciate it from you all!

This image is just one of the many images that I took over the last weekend. Doing the post processing on photoshop now. I will post a series of this model's photos on this forum. Watch for it...

Re: I need help to check on colour cast

The skin lacks yellow. A casual dragging of the eyedropper around the skin areas on the face will reveal that yellow is on average 5% less than magenta whereas it should be the other way round. And, on Asian skin, yellow is usually 10 - 20% higher than magenta. The picture also could do with some contrast to give it a bit more pop.
