JPG when saved not readable in file folder

Using Adobe Element 5 I bring in a photo and make my changes. Then click on the X to close the editor, and when asked to save... I rename it and save the file to another folder or same folder as a JPG. When I go to look at it it has no extension that I can see and will not let me see it. I've been doing it this way for months and always worked fine. After I installed a back-up drive this has started to happen. I removed the drive and program, but still have the problem. I hope someone can suggest a cure. Thanks Jeff

Re: JPG when saved not readable in file folder

Go to My Documents/Tools/Folder Options/View and make sure "Hide extensions for known file Types" is unchecked.

Re: JPG when saved not readable in file folder

Have you tried dragging the file from explorer into elements?

Christine

Re: JPG when saved not readable in file folder

Oddly enough, this happened to me yesterday with PS3 with two images. It has never happened before. I could not simply add .jpg to the name, nor open it in PS3. So I did what I always do when all else fails: open it with Irfanview. It asks if I want to change the name and then fixes it.

Re: JPG when saved not readable in file folder

Thanks to all that have replied. Adobe was quick to reply and solve the riddle. It seems Adobe Element sometimes forgets to add the jpg extention to the file you are working on! When that happens, simply rename the file xxxx.jpg and the pictures appears! So I pass this along to all and thanks again... Jeff
